Matthew Perry, the actor who played Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom Friends, died at his home in Los Angeles on Saturday at the age of 54. The cause of death is believed to be an accidental drowning.
Perry was born in Massachusetts and raised in various parts of Canada. He became a nationally ranked junior tennis player in Canada, and later in life, he took up pickleball, even having a court built at his new home in the Pacific Palisades.
Perry was cast in Friends at the age of 24, and the show made him a household name. He played Chandler for the show's entire 10-season run, a sarcastic yet loveable commitment-phobe who eventually finds love with Monica Geller (Courteney Cox).
Perry earned an Emmy nomination for his role on Friends and two more for his guest role as White House counsel Matt Albie on The West Wing. He also starred in several films, including Fools Rush In, All the Way, 17 Again, and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
Perry's death is a shock to his fans and colleagues alike. He was a talented actor and a beloved friend. He will be deeply missed.
